The Embassy of the Republic of Kenya advises Kenyan nationals travelling to Southeast Asia to exercise heightened vigilance, particularly when responding to employment opportunities advertised online or through social media.
Travellers are advised to:
- Verify the authenticity of all job offers, recruitment agencies and prospective employers before making travel arrangements.
- Ensure they possess the appropriate visa and travel documentation for the purpose of their visit.
- Be wary of offers promising exceptionally high salaries, free travel or immediate employment with minimal qualifications.
- Avoid surrendering passports or other personal documents to any individual or organization.
- Share travel itineraries and contact details with family members before departure and maintain regular communication while abroad.
- Familiarize themselves with local laws and emergency contacts before travel.
The Embassy has noted cases where individuals have been lured by fraudulent recruitment schemes and subsequently found themselves in situations of exploitation, including forced labour and human trafficking.
Kenyan nationals are strongly encouraged to undertake thorough due diligence before accepting overseas employment and to prioritize their personal safety and security at all times.
The Embassy remains committed to promoting the safety and welfare of Kenyan citizens and urges all travellers to make informed decisions and prioritize their personal security at all times. We are keen to promote safe, orderly and skills based Labour mobility between Kenya and countries of accreditation.
“Verify before you fly. Travel smart. Work safely.”
